Re: Slow load on Windows 7 x64

Peachtree / Sage 50 is 32 bit. You will need the MS Office to be 32 bit also to be able to use the Peachtree connections to MS Excel and Outlook. The version of Windows should be 64 bit if you want to have a modern amount of memory to work with. You should have at least 8GB of memory if you want speed otherwise you will be running at hard drive speeds instead of memory speeds. More speed - buy a better processor. Still more - If you want real fast loads try SSD's instead of mechanical hard drives. If you have too much data for Peachtree / Sage50 Complete you may need Quantum. The accounting is - what does it cost to be slow? - What does it cost to be faster.

What are you using for a server? What is your network speed (100 Mbits/sec, 1Gbits/sec, etc.).

 .

When Sage 50 2014 comes out it should work with Windows 8. You may want to wait for it.

Re: Slow load on Windows 7 x64

[ Edited ]

We are experiencing slow loads now, using Windows XP Pro 32 bit & 2012 PT Complete Accounting w/payroll, multiuser (4 users).

I'm currently researching new computers for my office. Looking at Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OS, so I'm looking into upgrading all of my software, drivers etc. to 64 bit versions. I was assuming this upgrade would resolve the slow load problems until I read this thread. Is Sage 50 true 64 bit software?

MS Office 64 bit version is in the plan also. What kind of conflicts have you experienced?

Any feed back is appreciated,

Re: Windows 7 x64

Windows 8 is far from stable. We tried running it on our 'test' workstation and Group Policies are having issues being applied, Mapped drives don't get saved, software updates fail, etc.

I'll give it at least 2-3 months before I try again. Maybe MSFT will have updates that fix these issues.

Re: Windows 7 x64

That was a good decision.  I recommend never running a critical application (like your accounting) on an operating system that wasn't available when your version of that application was being written and tested.

Windows 7 x64

Thanks Steven!

I upgraded from Win7 Home Premium 64bit to Win7 Pro-64 over the weekend.  Looks like everyhing working well now.  Will see if it was an improvement.

(Could have upgraded to Win8 for less $$, but not ready to be an early user and deal with compatibility issues.)

Re: Slow load on Windows 7 x64

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit is my first recommendation for an operating system.  If you are running Peachtree/Sage 50 on a stand-alone computer or a peer-to-peer network, then Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit will also work.

The only conflicts with 64 bit are with the 64 bit version of Microsoft Office, not Windows.

Re: Slow load on Windows 7 x64

It sounds like you are having many issues with your system that need to be solved for you to be able to install and run Peachtree. You might want to get some outside expertise to help.

When I described disabling Peachtree from accessing the internet it was for my own diagnostic purposes and not supposed to be a recommendation for you or anyone else to do the same thing. I hope I did not confuse the situation - I was trying to contribute some more understanding to the start up speed issue.

Also, please note, when people say to try disabling antivirus software it is also for diagnostics purposes only and not intended for you to normally operate that way.

Thanks.

Re: Slow load on Windows 7 x64

Sure, go ahead and disable your internet connection for PT.

BUT:

1. will your embedded credit card processing through Sage Payments still work? (I doubt it)

and

2. will your embedded UPS shipping still work? (I doubt it too).

We've been with Peachtree for over 12 years now, and we use the embedded apps everyday.

So it is doubly hard on us to deal with the recent issues related to the inoperability of the new release on Win 7. We can't restore, run, archive, or do anything with our PT data at this point. After spending over $3,000 each year, this is truly preposterous.

We are frantically looking right now for alternate accounting packages....

every year it is more and more difficult to see our way clear to retaining this app....

If only it would work.

I'm the IT person. I'm giving up. I've tried running/fixing it on 7 different computers on our network, and in each and every instance:

1. it fails to install

2. it installs, but won't open company data

3. it installs, opens company data, but won't perform a restore of the most recent backup

4. it installs, opens sample company data, but won't open 'our' company data

5. as above, but won't archivce

6. as above, and won't close the year to begin the next fiscal year.

This is NOT a good thing.

I posted this in another section on 11-11-09:

I have done a few tests and it seems that the major part of the delay in starting up is Peachtree going out to the web to check stuff. If you go to Options -> Define Internet Connection -> and set it to "The computer is not connected to the internet" the worst part of the startup time goes away!

There is something wrong with this internet checking - I think it is trying something that does not exist and retries several times and then gives up before continuing to load up. By telling it you have no internet access it doesn't do this.
