Re: Peachtree Firewall Tip

Thanks for the tip. These look like great diagnostic tools. Empirical studies are great but sometimes it helps to know in advance what you are looking for.

Thanks

Re: Peachtree Firewall Tip

You can discover this information for yourself using built-in Windows utilities:

NETSTAT [-a] [-b] [-e] [-n] [-o] [-p proto] [-r] [-s] [-v] [interval]

Displays protocol statistics and current TCP/IP network connections.

-a   Displays all connections and listening ports.

-b   Displays the executable involved in creating each connection or

listening port. In some cases well-known executables host

multiple independent components, and in these cases the

sequence of components involved in creating the connection

or listening port is displayed. In this case the executable

name is in [] at the bottom, on top is the component it called,

and so forth until TCP/IP was reached. Note that this option

can be time-consuming and will fail unless you have sufficient

        permissions.

-v   When used in conjunction with -b, will display sequence of

components involved in creating the connection or listening

        port for all executables.

Microsoft also has some awesome free tools in their SysInternals connection that reveal this information in greater detail:

SysInternals

TCPView for Windows

Process Monitor

Hope this helps!

Re: Peachtree Firewall Tip

CurtisC,

What ports does Peachtree / Pervasive use? For what functions?

Thanks

Re: Peachtree Firewall Tip

Hi lohelo,

Thank you for posting the tip regarding Stealth Port Blocking with Norton Internet Security.  We'll research the issue and review our documentation to ensure we have the most current information.

So that Peachtree Support can better handle these issues in the future, could you send me a direct message with your Customer ID and times you spoke with Peachtree Support so that I can review your case?

Thank you for your feedback,

Peachtree Firewall Tip

I spent countless hours trying to get peachtree to work with Norton Internet security 2007/8 on Windows Vista.

Read all the posts about programs to allow, did that. spent days reading all the forum posts I could find so I hope this simple tip helps somebody else as Peachtree Support is clueless.

I have peachtree data running on a network drive. And with the firewall off, it worked perfectly. Once the firewall was on, it just sucked.

I went through every firewall setting, step by step and finally found that the "stealth unused ports" setting must be unchecked to allow communication between peachtree and the database.

Since I run a hardware firewall, this won't jeopardize my computer, however, if your computer is exposed directly to the internet, I wouldn't expose your ports.

Symptoms that were resolved: peachtree never started or took a long time to start. Took a long time to shutdown. Certain actions took a long time.

Hope this helps somebody else. Peachtree support needs to get a clue. Everyone uses firewalls today. They need to have this stuff documented.
