I am getting a error messege (error line 2, field name: vendor ID) when trying to import a cvs file.
TheI field can contain up to 20 characters and the first line to error contains only 3 characters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to all.

Make sure that the order of the columns in Excel match the order of the import fields in Peachtree. Also make sure you don't have any quotation marks (") in your data.

I am having a similar problem to this thread, trying to import inventory items from a CVS file. I have all the the 'required' fields as suggested below, but I get an error that says an error occored on line 2 field name effective date.

Inactive and Tax Type are not mandatory, as the program will use the default settings of Inactive = 0 and Tax Type = 0. Otherwise, I agree with bottomline on the list of mandatory fields required for importing.

This is from memory, so I may be missing some:
Item ID
Item Class
Inactive
Tax Type
Costing Method
GL Sales
GL Inventory
GL COGS
You can look under Help/Peachtree Help/import/export fields to get the file definitions. But I think these are the required fields for a normal stock item. Good Luck!

I tried importing from excel to "purchase/receive inventory" (this is for expense reimbursement) following the steps you listed and I keep getting stuck when reimporting the csv file that was formatted when I exported. Here is the message:
An error occurred importing the file C:\Doc … \PURCHASE.CSV
This happened on: Line Number: 2
Field name: AP Date Cleared in Banak Rec
The process cannot continue
Any ideas on how to get this done? Thanks.
Helen

Peachtree provides and import utility that is designed to read Comma Separated Value formated files (CSV). Excel allows you to format your data and save it to in a CSV file format. Open Peachtree and your Company, then click on FILE and Select Import / Export to access the Utility Screen.
You could enter a sample Inventory Item into Peachtree, and then Export the sample item with HEADERS. Then open the exported file using Excel and use this file as a template for purposes of importing new data. Warning - always create a current data backup before attempting to import any data into Peachtree.
Open Peachtree and click on HELP in the Text Menu at the top of the screen. Search on the word IMPORT, where you will find information of the steps required to import CSV data files into Peachtree.
