It’s Sage Day across all Sage campuses across the world! Our colleagues around the world are participating in the day, committing to Change One Thing, and enjoying the camaraderie of our teammates. One of the employee activities is to offer other Sage employees, tips and advice on what one change you could make to your lives to help with the environment. For example:

  • Power down your PC when it’s not in use
  • Make use of used and/or recycled paper in the printer tray for internal purposes, leaving the white paper only for external mailing. Our Sage recycling efforts save more than 300 trees per year; our campuses have controls in place to manage energy usage, we recycle printer toner, etc.
  • Print on both sides of the paper when printing out documents
  • Give to friends or donate the clothes or toys your family don’t want any more rather than throwing in the trash
  • Support your local farmers and reduce greenhouse emissions by buying fruits and vegetables at your local farmers market
  • Try and do one thing a year that helps those that are most in need

We also have a North America canned food drive in progress! I’m attaching a picture of a canned sculpture of our Peachtree Complete Accounting 2010 box that we created yesterday to bring attention to the fact that in Georgia alone, 16.9 % of children, or roughly 1 in 6, are at risk for hunger, and most food banks are struggling to stay full. The local news channel aired a story… Check it out here: http://www.11alive.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=131061&catid=3

On a more personal note, I thought about starting to wash all of my super-girl capes in one cold wash a week to cut down on power. What do you think? OK, seriously, I’m going to take the mug pledge and reduce my environmental footprint (and alleviate some eco guilt) by using a reusable mug. This sounds small but you have no idea how much caffeine it takes to keep me powered up throughout the day. I just wanted to share that little bit of what we’re up to today.

Be green and good luck today,

Andrea Moe

PS Did you know Sage is a global company with 5.8 million customers and 14,500 employees across the globe – 615 here in Atlanta? Together we can make a difference. (pun intended)
