Don’t trip over your dog when carrying your laptop!

by Sage Employee KimD on 02-11-2009 12:49 PM

Are you like me and think you are immune to hard drive crashes? Let me rephrase that. Were you like me?

For whatever reason, I never worried that I would be “one of those people” whose hard drive crashes and wasn’t prepared with a backup. Wake up call, no one is immune.

Whether you get a virus, you download some unfortunate malware, or God forbid you trip over your 73-pound dog carrying your laptop (don’t ask), you need to be ready. Before it’s too late, don’t find yourself like me spending numerous hours, dollars, energy, and even tears trying to recover data that could have easily just been restored if you had a backup process in place.

Peachtree Accounting has several options for backing up.

  • One option is Online Backup. This will store a backup of your data securely offsite on a remote server. From the File menu, select Online Backup/Restore.
  • A second option is to create backups to CD or ZIP disks. From the File menu, select Backup and follow the prompts.

Oh! And I will let a little cat out of the bag… In our upcoming 2010 release, there will be new enhancements that make backing up even easier!

PS Anyone have any backup horror stories to share? Please reply to this post… I’d love to hear them. Misery loves company you know.

The first time ever in my career of 20 plus years I packed a laptop in checked baggage.  (I started with the Compaq luggable in 1987 and the current is a HP tablet).   I carefully arranged it in dirty clothes - and no, it wasn't washed in the laundry.  When booting up, I found the monitor with a small hole in the bottom left - with cracks radiating like a wind shield hit by a rock.

Quantum works fine, so now I tell anyone who asks that my laptop was hit by a bullet, (seems to improve my collections).

Great story, Lorelei. For self-inflicted reasons, my right arrow key stopped working. If only I had a empathetic reason for it. Apparently my laptop wasn't thirsty last Wednesday?!?
