We always learn so much when we visit our customers; whether it’s experiencing an inspiring entrepreneurial spirit, observing unique uses of the solutions we provide, getting a deeper knowledge of different business models, or sometimes even more…
Jodi and Shari, two of the product managers on my staff, and I went on an amazing customer visit today to the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. I think we were all surprised to see how much they do for new homeowners – getting them prepared not only to own a home but really getting them ready for a new chapter in their life. From complex training on how to understand mortgage documents to practical things like making sure folks know they need to empty lint out of their dryer. Say what?! Lint training?! Well imagine if you never knew anything but doing laundry at a Laundromat. You wouldn’t necessarily know you needed to do that. See the attached photo for what they call the “lint terrarium.” They pulled this out of a new homeowner’s dryer when the homeowner complained the dryer didn’t work anymore. Humor aside, they’ve thought of everything. I said during the tour, “I wish high school kids had this kind of training!”
From building houses to training new homeowners to an actual retail store (see attached picture) where the people they help can shop for gently used and new donated home items – what an amazing thing Habitat for Humanity does! I’m personally proud they are a Peachtree customer.
OH! I almost forgot to tell you! While we were there we got to witness a closing ceremony. This nice lady, after over a year and many hours of commitment, closed on her first home. Habitat presented her with a linen basket and their congratulations – everyone in the building came to see. It was a very special moment.
Now… on to planning a volunteer build day with Habitat for me and my staff. J Have a great weekend all!
