Hi George -

I appreciate the question. Only Peachtree 2010 SR1 is compatible with Windows 7. Prior releases, such as Peachtree 2008 and Peachtree 2009, will install and run on Windows 7; however, there may be areas of functionality that will not operate as intended. For example, you will not be able to utilize e-mail and PDF functions within older releases. Please refer to the Windows Vista® page for other examples as these would apply to Windows 7 as well. Also note that currently supported releases, up to and including 2009, will be supported on Windows 7 provided the issue is not directly related to the Windows 7 environment.

Andrea

I am NOW using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit and was looking here for some advice with Peachtree. As an OS, I find the new features very helpful, as well as the quicker page transitions. I have different personal systems using XP variations. I was using Vista Home premium 64 bit on THIS notebook before I installed the upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.... SO far so good. Let me know here if you want to know more.

However what may not be so clear is what this means to you and your business and should you upgrade.

Re: How Secure is Your USB Drive?

Hi Mike

I use an IronKey and have for a few years, they are great, I highly recommend them. But as you noted they are expensive and into today's economy many people are looking for ways to increase security but on a budget. An option that I have recommended to friends and family is to use a free open source encryption tool called TrueCrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org/) with a normal USB pen drive.

While it is a little more complicated to setup and use than an IronKey, its free and you can put it on virtually any USB drive. They have a pretty good Beginners Tutorial in their Documentation, that should get most users on their way. TrueCrypt also has some really nice advanced options that are not available with the IronKey, that might be beneficial to more tech savvy users. And if users want to add Firefox or other portable apps to the drive they can use applications from http://www.pendriveapps.com/ or http://portableapps.com/

TrueCrypt can also be put on portable hard drives that users often use to backup laptops that only require a USB port and no extra power cables, this gives you much larger capacity over traditional USB pen drives.

There are some portable drives available that have similar functionality to the IronKey. Seagate has one called "BlackArmor PS110" that holds 500Gigs. http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/external/blackarmor/blackarmor_ps_110/ costs about $159.99.

Mike,

I've been a fan of audible.com for a while, mostly because I have a 40 min. commute and can spend the time listenting to a business book that I'd never get to otherwise.

Here's a new source for audible books (new to me). Take a look. Simply Audiobooks offers four ways to enjoy audio books: rent, purchase, download, or -- the most intriguing --Playaway. A Playaway book comes on a portable device that includes a fresh battery and ear buds that you get to keep.

Prices are comparable to Audible's, but the library isn't quite as large (although 22,000 is more than I'll ever get through). The thing that sets this plan apart is the flexibility of the delivery. Check it out.

Shari

Re: Are netbooks the wave of the future?

I just bought a Acer netbook, 9". 160gb w/ 1gb ram. Amazing little creature. I have been evaluating them for buying 8 or 9 of them for out service trucks to store inventory price lists and keep current that way and also for data manuals for equip. we work on. Also download our customer list for our service techs to see if clients are current when it's after hours. At 299.00 or so they are a great deal. Tim

Re: The DVR is broken! Everybody panic!!

This article is a wake-up call. We do not realize how dependant we have become to our choices in this electronic age. Personally, I would rank GPS, IM, MP3, and then DVR as being the most important personal items. The Microwave is important but I do not consider it a personal piece of electronics, my wife does however. Great article, Mike.
