Hello Harold & Kim, My company offers Composer NPD, an add-on for Peachtree that includes: 1. Multiple storage locations with 4 levels of granularity (Site/Warehouse/Zone/Bin). 2. Multiple stocking locations are presented in the Work Ticket. 3. Vendor pricing and volume discounting by receiving unit. 4. Vendor part number association in Purchasing. 5. An MRP component that factors open-order balances, on-hand inventory, open-PO balances, and scheduled production to create a purchasing requirements list. The Composer product does not require Quantum but does integrate with it. So, if you have not outgrown your current version of Peachtree, you can avoid incurring additional cost. With any version of Peachtree you will be restricted to the 20 character Id as indicated in other parts of this thread. Best regards, Message Edited by swheeler on 11-07-2009 09:00 AM

Hi Kim, Sage is now offering Peachtree QME for manufacturing. It is a combo of Quantum and MISys. It will resolve many of the pain points that you are currently experiencing and you would not have to move out of Peachtree. Mike- We DESPERATELY need more than 20 characters. It is one of the biggest headaches we have with PT. It is certainly at the point that if PT doesn't update that feature we will be purchasing a new software as soon as it becomes affordable. We are a manufacturing company and as an inventory management software PT is not very friendly in regards to maintianing accurate BOMs or creating part numbers. Also, the fact that only one vendor can be actively associated with a part is also cumbersome. Also, would be nice to have a pick list for shortages where the purchaser can "grab" items from that list and create a PO. Back to the original topic- >20 characters for Item ID would be MUCH appreciated!!!! Kim

Hi Mike, I have customers that would like to have more than 20 characters for the ID. This requirement is a carry-over from days before wide-spead availability of microcomputers and business software. With the computer, all one really needs is a short unique identifier to represent an item. But people have been building so much meaning into their material codes for such a long time, its near impossible to get them to change. I've seen my customers attempt up to 30 characters in logical segments. If a customer doesn't run my product stand-alone, I've got to limit them to the 20 chars that Peachtree allows. I suspect that there are many sales opportunities out there for Peachtree that don't materialize due simply to the 20 character Id limitation. Scott

Thanks for this suggestion, Harold. Is there anyone else who needs more than 20 characters for the item ID? Comment here, then go to www.peachtree.com/enhance.
